A multi trophy winner, previous vintage claimed the 2008 Jimmy Watson. Flametree is a young and most remarkable little estate which is enjoying a meteoric rise to fame, transpiring solely on the basis of quality and unprecedented trade show success at national competitions. A mostly Cabernet Sauvignon wine with a third of Merlot from fruit grown to the Karridale and Carbunup appellations of the Margaret River region. The very special sites produce the most intense wines with ripe dark berry fruit characters, the greatest depth and finest structure

A lifelong friendship between local winemaking identities lead to the establishment of one of the Margaret River's most successful estates. The Flametree wineworks are located on the picturesque shores of Geographe Bay, whence some of the new world's finest expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon originate. Flametree can lay claim to retaining some of the Margaret River's finest parcels of fruit, which the devoted winemaking team handcraft into beautiful wines with unique flavours, solid structure and good palate weight. Following the crush and vinification in a selection of fermenters, Flametree is treated to maturation in a combination of new and prior use French oak barrels for twelve months. Approx 14.5%

Deep rich ruby with a vibrant hue. Ripe dense fruit characters of blackcurrant and stewed plums. Polished, seamless palate with dense fruit and ardent tannins. Long and lingering it closes to lasting impressions of blackberry and cedar oak. "Aromas that arise like a genie out of the bottle, currants and blackberry upfront, cedar and cassis. An athletic presence on the palate, enthusiastic, persistent and compelling, the fruit is discernible and clean, the tannins firm and new. A wine of impact and majesty!" -Case4Claret.com, "Assertively Margaret River, endowed with scents of blueberry and currant, a palate like a feast of fruit, an unforgettable finish of bramble, cigar and the finest new oak!" -CabernetFrank.com

Flametree

At Flametree, the vision is to produce brilliant Australian wines of uncompromising quality and character

The Flametree is a spectacular Australian tree, in full bloom, a magnificent sight to behold. Interestingly it only comes into full flower when all conditions are favourable. The same is true of winemaking. To produce spectacular, wine all of the elements, from grape to glass, must come together at the right time.

The Flametree Winery is located on the picturesque shores of Geographe Bay within the Margaret River winegrowing region. The team at Flametree select exceptional fruit to produce beautifully handcrafted wines with unique flavours, great depth and fine structure.

The Flametree philosophy is an elegant yet laid back approach to wine, ensuring that whenever you enjoy a bottle of Flametree it is a relaxed and enjoyable experience. The Flametree Cellar Door has been designed to capture the essence of the beautiful beachside locale. A selection of Flametree wines are available for tasting each day and all of the range including new vintage releases and a selection of limited release wines can be enjoyed over a bottle of wine in beautiful landscaped gardens.

A new state-of-the-art winery was completed in 2007. The winery is a reflection of a commitment to excellence, the design ensures minimal fruit handling and a significant investment has been made in acquiring equipment and technology that maintains the integrity and purity of fruit. A selection of French oak barrels are used to mature the wines, with a little American thrown in to add diversity as required.

Given the favourable climate conditions of the southwest, night cooling is employed to keep the barrel room temperature controlled. The system kicks in when the external temperature reaches 18 degrees Celsius or less. Any warmer internal air is sucked out and the cool night air is allowed to flow into the building. This system minimises refrigeration requirements and environmental impact. A custom designed environmental waste water treatment system means that all of the water used in the winemaking process is recycled and used to irrigate vines and surrounding landscape.

Flametree is a highly meritorious winemaking estate that works very closely with some of the Margaret River's most dedicated growers. It is truly amazing to see a new winery claim such an impressive string of reputable awards, so early in their career, immediately upon their label’s debut appearance around the Australian wine show circuit. Flametree's commitment to excellence is the driving force which sees the quality of their wines gain stature with every vintage. The Flametree team's passionate approach is rewarded by accolades and the respect of peers. The philosophy at Flametree is to make wines that express the quality of the fruit sourced and to strike the right balance between flavour and structure.

Flametree is home of the 2008 Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy, Australia's most highly prized accolade for wine. Flametree was honored with Trophies for best red and best blended red (as well as gold) for the very same Jimmy Watson winning wine at the 2008 Qantas Wine Show. Flametree also beat hundreds of entries to win the best dry table red wine in a David and Goliath-style battle at the IGA Perth Royal Show awards.
