Originally released in 1976, the Koonunga Hill range has established a sound reputation for quality and consistency, while availing red wine enthusiasts of the opportunity to approach the enduring Penfolds style. The inaugural 1976 vintage of Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet was a legendary wine, still drinking well at Penfolds red wine recorking clinics. Penfolds»
A Shiraz of power and elegance, Heathcote Estate claimed a significant gold medal at the prestigious London International. Inspired by the amazing depth and character of Terra Rosa Shiraz, the Bialkower and Kirby families determined the most idyllic location to propogate vines for an ultra premium Shiraz to rival Australia's finest. Heathcote Estate»
The term Terra rossa means red earth, a rich, free draining soil that is considered by many as the viticultural equivalent of discovering gold. Beneath the strata of red earth at Wrattonbully sits a layer of ancient limestone, a winegrower's dream as it allows free drainage of water, yet ensures vine roots stay close to the surface, putting natural stress on the vine and limiting its vigor and yield. Smith Hooper»
A mostly Cabernet wine with a tenth of Merlot, a jot of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, representing almost a third of Hollick's annual production. Previous vintages of Tannery Block have won numerous prestigious awards, including the pre-eminent Jimmy Watson, Robert Bryce and Arthur Kelman Trophies. Hollick»
Elizabeth is a classic Hunter Valley white which has established itself as one of Australia's benchmark Semillon. Named in commemoration of the first ever visit to Australia by a reigning monarch in 1954, Elizabeth has claimed over fifty trophies and multi gold throughout it's long and illustrious history. Mount Pleasant»
It was the great Cabernet wines of Bordeaux which inspired Bill Taylor to diversify from imports and retail into the highly fraught pursuit of grape growing. An ardent enthusiast of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Taylor had a keen enough palate and nose to determine that the most auspicious lands for Cabernet Sauvignon were amongst the idyllic rolling pastorals of Valley Clare. Taylors»
White Label is a McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon of the highest eminence, having been nominated for the George Mackey Memorial Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding Australian export. Crafted from fruit grown to some of the oldest vines at Pirramimma and McLaren Vale, it has twice claimed Gold in San Francisco and competed well against a formidable host of distinguished growths at the prestigious London International. Pirramimma»
David O'Leary really knows about things Cabernet Sauvignon, having claimed a Jimmy Watson Trophy and twice International Red Wine Maker of the Year. From low yielding vines up to fifty years of age, grown to superior sites within the Armagh Valley and Polish Hill River districts, the O'Leary Walker team create a powerful and complex, exquisitely perfumed and seamlessly layered Cabernet Sauvignon, framed by judicious oak and supported by graceful tannins, reflecting the idyllic growing climes of Valley Clare. OLeary Walker»
The top shelf in toothsome and dulcetly fragrant, fruit forward frizzante wines, fashioned for those who know what they like and take their Moscato seriously. Brown Brothers make the best Moscato in the land, their dedicated Muscat vineyards have been trained to deliver harvests of the most luscious fruit. Brown Brothers»
Peter Lehmann has always been Riesling's most outspoken advocate, he has claimed best Riesling trophy at the prestigious London International on more occasions than any other, he declares Riesling to be his wine of choice if marooned on the proverbial desert island. Early picking of fruit from a superior single vineyard in the salubrious climes of Eden Valley has produced a fresh, lively Riesling, expect this captivating wine to exhibit genuine charm and offer great longevity as it narrowly missed being bottled behind Lehmann's flagship Riesling label.. Peter Lehmann»
Tyrrell made a major contribution to the development of Heathcote as a world class winegrowing region. One of the earliest pioneers, they sowed the seeds and established the vines which launched the second gold rush into Heathcote Shiraz. Tyrrells»
The enthusiastic maritime climes of Martinborough are heaven sent for a style and quality of Sauvignon Blanc to rival the world's finest. Mother nature sets the stage, but ultimately it is the thoughtful viticultural practices of the Palliser Estate team, which ensures a harvest of ripe and intensely flavoured Sauvignon Blanc at every vintage. From humble beginnings in the Northland kauri gum fields early last century, Babich Wines have become one of New Zealands most respected wineries

Today Babich is one of New Zealand's largest family-owned wine companies. Babich Wines' strongly-held winemaking philosophy lies at the heart of their approach to producing interesting wines.

A number of viticulture techniques are used to improve grape quality. These include thinning grapes to improve quality and flavour. Removing some of the leaves exposes grapes to more sun, thus enhancing ripening and flavour development. All vineyards in which Babich have an interest are situated on free-draining soils. Computer controlled irrigation systems are therefore employed to maintain vine health and maximise grape quality.

Decisions on harvesting are made by the winemakers and viticulturists and can be influenced by weather, and the wine style envisaged. Small crops of the highest quality grapes might be hand-harvested into small bins and whole bunch pressed, whereas mechanical harvesters are employed for larger volumes or to beat threatening weather.

Henderson, in West Auckland, has a winemaking legacy dating from the turn of the century

Auckland is the base of many New Zealand wineries and is still the country's 7th most heavily planted wine region. Chardonnay and premium red varieties such as pinot noir and pinotage flourish in the relative warmth and the loam-clay soils of Babich Wine's 28 HA vineyard in Henderson. Hawke's Bay has a tradition of quality table winemaking stretching back to the nineteenth century. The region is blessed with a superb climate for viticulture, being sufficiently cool to ripen grapes slowly, yet warm and sunny enough to promote optimum fruit ripening.

The Hawke's Bay region has built up an outstanding reputation for its deep-flavoured, slowly evolving chardonnays, robust, tropical sauvignon blancs and stylish, scented cabernet and merlot-based reds. In recent times it has become renowned for varieties like gewurztraminer, pinotage and syrah. The 16 hectare Fernhill Vineyard, planted in light sandy-loam soils, enjoys sheltered, warm conditions perfect for ripening grapes with elegant fruit flavours.

The 38 hectare Gimblett Road Vineyard, planted in exceptionally free-draining shingle country yields small crops of grapes harbouring rich, concentrated flavours. Combining the French concept of terroir with modern day thinking to define, protect and market wine, Gimblett Gravels has created a designation of their district according to a tightly specified soil type. The gravely soils laid down by the old Ngaruroro River, which were exposed after a huge flood in the 1870's, make the Gimblett Gravels distinctive. In summer and autumn, the district is up to three degrees Celsius warmer during the day compared with most other areas in the Hawke's Bay. The evenings are also warmer because of thermal conductivity in the stony soils.

Babich Wines has 118 HA of vineyards in Marlborough and also sources additional grapes from growers in the region

Many of New Zealand's most fragrant, flavoursome wines originate in the pebbly, flat plains of the Marlborough region. Abundant sunshine and a dry autumn climate enables Marlborough-grown sauvignon blanc, riesling, pinot gris and pinot noir to benefit from a long, slow, ripening period that intensifies flavours. Marlborough is the world's leading cool climate wine region. Babich Wakefield Downs Vineyard in the Awatere Valley is located on a terraced site above the Awatere River. This particularly free-draining site has a frost-free microclimate that is ideal for grape growing.

The Cowslip Valley Vineyard in the Waihopai Valley lies on a gentle rise. Its deep gravely soils provide an ideal site for sauvignon blanc, pinot gris, riesling and pinot noir. Grapes sourced from the heavier soils of the Selmes Road Vineyard in the Wairau Valley are ideal for blending with grapes grown on lighter, gravely soils. These soils are particularly suited to sauvignon blanc, pinot gris and pinot noir.
