About Beresford - the Winery
Beresford
Formed in 1985, Beresford Wines has established itself in 15 export markets and has received numerous prestigious show awards both nationally and internationally
Beresford wines are hand-crafted to capture the Essence of McLaren Vale. The wines offer consistent quality that epitomise the ambience and character of the McLaren Vale region. Each wine has been made with the same attention to detail that ensures the elements of richness, warmth, character, soul and depth are there for everyone to enjoy. When you open a bottle of Beresford wine you are sharing the hard work, skills, experience, creativity and passion of a dedicated team of people. This has taken Beresford Wines to where it is today.
First established as a grape-growing region in 1838, it wasn’t until the late 1880’s that McLaren Vale really boomed, developing a fine reputation for full bodied red wines. At the turn of the century a strong export market into the UK was created, long after exports from the other regions of Australia had dwindled. The proximity of the sea in the form of Gulf St Vincent, provides tempering sea breezes offering an excellent micro-climate for viticulture. With well structured soils, the Vale is a haven of consistency. Its endearing beauty, peaceful tranquility and gently undulating hills continue to attract people with their solitude and grace. A long tradition of full flavoured wines is being upheld by Beresford Wines.
Beresford's grapes are selected from as far as the windy Southern end of the Vale at Willunga, with its higher aspect and shallow, shaly soils, to the richer loams of Blewett Springs. Each source vineyard has been carefully selected for its distinctive flavour and aroma, profile, contributing its own uniqueness to each blend.
The winemakers at Beresford are very much hands on, working in partnership with the growers, from pruning through to the ripening season to ensure balanced vines and maximum fruit flavour development. The effort in sourcing the best fruit allows Beresford Wines to capture the true Essence of McLaren Vale.
Beresford's Rob Dundon commenced his winemaking career in 1974 with the Hardy Wine Company at McLaren Vale, forming Beresford Wines in 1985. Rob’s uncompromising dedication to winemaking has become his trademark. Tasting, blending, and checking on the smallest detail ensures the consistent quality of the hand crafted wines. This approach has put Rob amongst some of Australia’s most respected winemakers.
Working with Rob is Scott McIntosh. Scott learned his craft in the McLaren Vale at Maglieri Wines, and he displays that indispensable quality which is required to be a respected
winemaker. Scott’s fanaticism in finding the nuances of each parcel of wine, and blending to enhance each character is his real passion. The winemakers guarantee that quality will be delivered consistently to our customers.
